Vaccination

 

Today, this alarming thought hit me: Many Norwegians are vaccinated against Christianity! Just as a vaccination gives you a small, controlled dose of the disease you want to avoid, so the devil has successfully vaccinated so many in the Western world against Christianity. How has he done that? Well, many people have grown up with a small, controlled dose of Christianity. They were taken to church and baptized, they learned who Jesus was in the Bible at Sunday school, and learned to recite the Lord's Prayer. Many Norwegians have told me, "I've got my childhood faith," meaning that they have no active, dynamic relationship with God, but "got something" as a child which they choose to identify with culturally. There was perhaps little spiritual life in the home, no family prayer and no Bible-study. They never saw a miracle or heard the gospel preached with power that seized their hearts and impacted their young lives. Sadly, there was no real encounter with Jesus. 

The dangerous situation now is that they think they KNOW what Christianity is. It is lifeless, boring and irrelevant, so they have no need to look into it, and it doesn't cross their minds that the answers they need to life can be found within a relationship to the God of the Bible. It's enough to go to church at Christmas. They are "safely" inoculated for life! Let us, the church, take responsibility for this vaccination program - it is partly our fault!

Well, what can we do about this? We can pray and work for a strong variant of Christianity which is resistant to the vaccine! By God's grace, we can demonstrate a strain of Christianity which does not "have a form of godliness, but denies the power". (2. Tim. 3:5) If we seek God, we can be become powerful Christians who demonstrate the power of Christ-likeness and the supernatural, abundant, miracle-working Life God intended. Let's be "infectious". :)
